Connector Unit Converter: mm, mil, inch, AWG and Contact Span
mm ↔ mil ↔ inch, AWG ↔ mm², and the contact span of a connector from its pitch and number of positions.
Length
AWG
Contact span from pitch
This is the centre-to-centre span of the contacts along one row = pitch × (positions per row − 1). The connector body is longer — use the datasheet’s drawing for overall length.
Frequently asked questions
How many millimetres is a mil?
1 mil (a thousandth of an inch) is exactly 0.0254 mm, so 10 mil = 0.254 mm and 100 mil = 2.54 mm — the classic 0.1-inch connector pitch.
How do I find the span of a connector from its pitch?
For a single-row connector the distance from the first to the last contact is (positions − 1) × pitch; the housing is longer than that by its end walls.
For preliminary assessment only — the final decision must follow the manufacturer’s datasheet and the applicable NEC / IEC / UL standards. Results are calculated from the standard formulas stated on this page and are for design estimates only. They are not a rating of any specific part — always confirm current, voltage, temperature and environment limits against the manufacturer’s datasheet for the part you intend to use.
